Awning Clean

One of the most enjoyable benefits of RVing is to be able to enjoy the great outdoors. Another is
to be able to be in one region of this beautiful country today, and by morning be able to be in an
entirely different region; with the familiarity of home with you, and enjoying the outdoors. At
some point you’ll appreciate being able to stay outdoors but in need of some respite from the
sun. In central Texas, like many other southern regions, our wonderful sunny climate can end up
sending you in search of the shade. How appropriate then that the RV awning has become such
a common feature that you will rarely see an RV without one. What is not rare to see is an
awning that is no longer useful because of lack of care. In this article, we want to share a step
by step and some tips that will help you to clean, maintain and promote the longevity of your
RV’s awning.

If you have the opportunity to clean the awning in the shade it will save you some trouble. If you
are cleaning an awning in the sun you have to keep the awning and surrounding area wet.

  • You can start by extending the awning and, using a normal spray nozzle and water hose, wet the awning and spray leaves, dirt and debris off of the awning. Use the water to clear debris and dirt from the top and underside of the awning. Pay close attention to the hardware that retracts and extends the awning, to make sure that it is also free of debris.
  • Using Camco Awning Cleaner diluted 4oz per gallon of water , spray the still wet underside of the awning using a spray bottle. Apply liberally. It is typical that the underside suffers more from mildew stains than the topside. Spray thoroughly.
  • Using an extending pole brush with soft bristles, spread the applied mildew remover evenly across the underside of the awning with only the intention to evenly cover the entirety of the underside of the awning. Allow to soak for 5 to 8 minutes. If the surface begins to dry, wet again with a mist from the water hose. At this point you should notice the mildew remover working on the stains.
  • Now with the same brush dipped in soapy water scrub the underside of the awning gently.
  • Rinse thoroughly, remembering to also rinse the sides of the RV adjacent to the awning. Repeat entire process for stubborn stains.
  • Repeat the process concerning the topside of the awning.
  • Allow to air dry before retracting
